South Africa: Cape Town, Part VI - All Good Things

06.01.2014
  • woke up and typed for a while - met up with Alex and went for lunch at Ocean Basket - went to Labia theater to see Enough Said - sweet movie
  • thought through a number of ideas of things to do with the day - ended up resting at home - raining and very windy today 
  • Talked with Kevin and my father - Heather and I went to dinner at Africa Cafe - easily the best meal I have had in Cape Town - 13 courses - singing in the restaurant
  • home to type and talk in the living room with family

  • Breakfast at Melissas with Heather and Alex - delicious poached eggs with mushroom 
  • New Church Gallery
  • Train to Rondebosch - Cocoa Wah Wah
  • Nik Robiniwitz - opener - Baxter Theater 
  • Kloof St. House - Heather, Alex, Henning -

  • Morning typing - talked with Farid a bit - 
  • Heather, Farid, and I to Knead - Iced coffee, poached eggs on GF bread with creamed spinach, tomato, and portobello mushroom - 
  • Home to meet up with Cynthia - art walk - National Library - Cynthia has friends everywhere - photo history of Cape Town and Southern Africa - old cameras - special collections section - original shakespear text
  • Walk down to galleries on Church Street - talk with worker about art - 
  • Sweets at Food Lover's Market - talk about our happy places 
  • Home to type and plan and watch a new episode of a show I watch - talk with friends - goodbye to Cynthia - out to store to buy dinner and ice cream for housemates

  • Out to brunch Leah - finally made it to Jason's! Delicious "Sushi Sandwhich" with sashimi salmon, pickled ginger, avocado, lettuce, and wasabee mayo - so great to connect again - may be the last time depending on our scheduels and, you know, when she has her baby!
  • Walked her to the bus stop and then home to do some planning and emailing - trying to get my trips to East Africa and Western Europe planned - shaved my beard off and enjoyed reactions of friends
  • Farid and I walked and talked for a while on a trip to buy a mosquito net for our upcoming trips to more rural areas - home and went to coffee with Alex - chatted for a while and watched people through the window
  • Went to the Mount Nelson to use the spa - experience of white privilege means that I can walk through predominantly white spaces without being questioned - used the steam and sauna for a while - open air pool and shower - ordered a pot of tea in the lobby cafe after and read my book
  • walk home to meet Heather and Alex for dinner - walked to Fat Cactus a block away, a Tex-Mex place where we ordered a pitcher of mango margarita and some tasty food - we made room at our table for a large group needing space
  • Home and chatted in the living room while drifting off on the couches - Danny from London being too loud - toured new arrivals - went to bed.

  • computer work for the day - planning and emails and blog
  • back to spa
  • out to dinner with Heather - called Alex and changed plans to spend time with him - went to Knead - delicious GF pizza with butternut squash - ginger beer with booze
  • Home and crashed out - repacked a bit and talked to new roomie, an academic from Germany by way of London

  • Phone date with Kevin - out to buy fresh baked bread - mailed a few things home 
  • Came home and feeling sad missing Kevin - started working on trip plans - booked tickets from Africa to Europe and from Europe to Iceland and Iceland HOME! Emailed friends and family and started the process of coordinating visits with people along my route - Friends had their baby! Morgan! 
  • out for coffee and reading for a while - home to do more work - out to dinner at Ricks with book - joined by Alex -
  • home again and saw Heather who wanted a snack so went back to Ricks - had tea - came home to write emails - bed - sailing tomorrow. 
12.01.2014
  • To the marina for sailing - full boat today with a family and three other sailors besides Alex and I - good wind - dropped anchor in Granger Bay - swarm of seals - sun fish - great last sail in Cape Town for a while - glad to have a friend to come sailing with when I am back in town. 
  • Back to Zebra with a coffee on the way - tried to rest but unsuccessful - packed up and said goodbye to Katherine and Susan
  • Off to going away dinner - been here long enough to have one! Tess and Francois and Sayd, Alex, Cynthia, Henning, Heather and I - Ralph had an emergency and couldn't make it and my other friends I guess were just too busy with their baby born yesterday to come to my party! :) Great Portugueses/Mozambique food at Toni's on Kloof - moved onto Slug & Lettuce - Kai playing music - drunk guys in bar lifting girls and singing with singer - I joined and sang in bar for a while - good times - home to chat with Kevin
