- Super long travel day - breakfast and hanging out waiting for bus which arrived at noon - started and finished a new book on the road - Incredible... Dog...
- Arrived into Johannesburg at backpackers - already late - waited for our shuttle - drive out to Soweto - township - home of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu - uprising in 196___ - arrived at Lebo's Soweto Backpackers - got checked in and had dinner - amazing food with great chakakaka - stayed up and talked with Thando - bed in comfy room

- Breakfast - chat with other guests - pick up by Nsthopa - drive to Apartheid Museum - whites and non-whites entrances - view of city - emotional exhibits - TRC
- Pick up from museum - head to Wandy's - stop at silos - great lunch with our driver -
- Nelson Mandela's house - Hector Peterson memorial -
- Drive over to Mopoyo mall - had coffee, bought books, decided to see a movie - did some shopping - went to dinner at Tavern - ate great African food - going to miss pap - bread
- 12 years a slave - locked in movie theater - taxi ride home - hanging out with Lebo - bed

- Transfer to new hostel in Melville to be closer to downtown Johannesburg - settled in and caught up on the boring things like online banking
- Walked around our new neighborhood - Portuguese restaurant for lunch - tried to sell a book - cafe and sweet and soap
- Mini bus taxi to Braamfontain - helpful woman - walked up to Constitution Hill
- Women's prison - men's prison - bookstore and new books - Constitution Hall - built from bricks of former prison - steps outside - old fort
- Walk back toward town - over Nelson Mandela Bridge - caught taxi home
- Time to rest before dinner with Alley! Went to La Luna near home - great aubergine salad - bay leaf pana cotta for dessert with lemon culie - closed down the restaurant
- Home to have last night with Heather in South Africa - drank our beer from Lesotho - rain on the tin roof of our poolside cabana

- Last breakfast with Heather at De La Creme - lemon polenta cake
- Walked in the rain - home and cab to bus station - short goodbye with new, dear friend - amazing how travel brings lifelong friends into our lives
- Bus ride was uneventful - listened to music which I have not done in a long time - sudoku - border crossing into Botswana - met a guy who is doing his PhD is Human Resource Management - black managers and retention and job transition - interetsting because I am reading book about advancement of black managers written in 1985 during aparteid - another book recommendation too
- Into capital of Gaborone - taxi driver so cool - arrived at Backpackers - room to myself - swam in pool while guy played guitar - lovely - talked with couple from South Africa - played with dogs - had a shower and snack - talked with guitar guy, Andre - leads wildlife tours - talked about Nietzsche for a while after seeing my book - read for a while and then to bed - great to be here
